We welcome abstracts based on original research, case studies, frameworks, or practical examples that fit the conference themes.

 

Call for Abstracts Extended! Due to strong interest, the Call for Abstracts and Student Essay

Prizes for AABHL 2026 has been extended until 14 June 2026.

Presenter Registration

  • All presenters—including panel members and workshop facilitators—must register for the conference and pay the registration fee.
  • Presenters are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel and accommodation.
  • Earlybird rates will be available to all presenters whose abstract has been accepted for the conference program.

Abstract Guidelines

Your abstract must be original and not previously presented at an AABHL Conference.

  • Please declare any conflicts of interest.
  • Check your abstract carefully for spelling and grammar errors.
  • Use single spacing throughout.
  • Do not use abbreviations in the title.
  • If you use abbreviations in the abstract, write the full term the first time.
  • Capitalise the first letter of trade names.
  • Do not include references, tables, or figures.
  • Accepted abstracts will be published exactly as submitted.
  • Industry submissions are welcome, but commercial or sales-focused abstracts will not be accepted.
  • The Program Committee will review all submissions to select high quality presentations.

Prepare Your Abstract

Your abstract should include:

Title
• A clear title of up to 15 words.
• Titles are displayed in uppercase.

Authors
• Include the given name and family name of each contributing author.
• Separate names with commas.

Affiliations
• Provide each author’s organisation, suburb, state.
• Only the presenter(s) will be shown in the conference program.

Abstract Text (250 words)
Address the following points:
• The purpose of the presentation
• The nature and scope of the topic
• The issue or problem being addressed
• The outcome or conclusion reached

Abstract Submission Instructions

  • All abstracts must be submitted through the online portal (use the Submit Abstract button on this page).
  • You can make changes to your abstract until the submission deadline.
  • If you notice an error, please edit the abstract directly in the portal.

    Corresponding Author

    Enter the contact details for the corresponding author in the submission portal. This person will receive all communication about the abstract.

    Abstract Submission Details

    For each abstract, you will need to provide:

    • Presentation title (15 words)
    • Abstract text (250 words)
    • Preferred presentation format
    • Preferred session theme
    • Names of all authors
    • Author affiliations
    • Presenter’s details (limited to two presenters unless part of a panel or in conversation session)
    • Short biography of the presenter (100 words)

    Correspondence

    • The submitting author will be the main contact for all communication about the abstract, including acceptance notifications.
    • All submitting authors will receive a confirmation email.

    AABHL Student Essay Prizes

    The AABHL Student Essay Prizes recognises outstanding work by students (HDR, Postgrad and Undergrad) attending and presenting at the conference.

    Winners will be invited to present their paper at the conference and will receive complimentary registration and a one‑year AABHL membership. Prize recipients are also encouraged to submit their essays to the Journal of Bioethical Inquiry for consideration through the standard peer‑review process.

    Prizes

    John McPhee Prize (Law)
    Awarded for work on health law and ethics, focusing on topics at the intersection of health, law, and ethical practice.

    Max Charlesworth Prize (Bioethics)
    Awarded for work exploring ethical issues in medicine, health sciences, or health care from any relevant disciplinary perspective.

    Submission Requirements

    • Essay must not exceed 5,000 words (excluding references).
    • Submissions must follow Journal of Bioethical Inquiry guidelines and be uploaded as a Word document via the abstract portal by 14 June 2026.
    • Only winning essays will be included in the conference program. Students wishing to present outside the prize competition should submit an abstract via the Call for Abstracts page.

    Assessment

    Essays will be judged by a panel comprising two AABHL committee nominees and two members of the Journal of Bioethical Inquiry editorial board. Assessment will consider academic scholarship, familiarity with the field, rigour, originality, and clarity.
